MLTA Members:
On Thursday, March 28, Governor Gretchen Witmer signed Senate Bill 721, sponsored by Senator Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield), into law which amends the Marketable Record Title Act (MRTA).
In short, this legislation extends the date by which a person can preserve an interest, claim, or charge in a marketable record title to September 29, 2025. Originally the deadline for this was March 29, 2024. The bill extended the deadline by approximately 17 months.
This legislation did receive immediate effect from the legislature, so it became effective at the time of the Governor’s signature. Attached is the bill as passed and signed for your review.
Please make note of this legislative change.
Best wishes,
